Physiotherapists in UK In the United Kingdom, the physiotherapy is said to be founded by four nurses in 1894. They established the Society of Trained Masseuses to counter the disrepute that the profession was receiving due to the unscrupulous practices of a few persons by offering immoral services in the name of massage. In the year 1920, the Society received a Royal Charter and amalgamated with another similar institution, the Institute of Massage & Remedial Gymnastics. The name, the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy or CSP, was adopted in 1944. Later, the Physiotherapists Association Ltd. and the Faculty of Physiotherapists were integrated with the Society in 1970 and 1968 respectively. More than 8,000 UK physiotherapists are registered with the Society as permanent members. Physiotherapists generally undergo a 3-year degree course in UK, though a few universities offer 4-year part-time courses. The students must complete 1,000 hours of practical learning in clinical environment to qualify as practicing physiotherapists. In the United Kingdom, nearly 35 universities and other institutions are training students in physiotherapy courses. Majority of UK physiotherapists work with the National Health Service or NHS, though several specialists have individual practices or work in tandem with other medical professionals in multi-facility hospitals. Normally, patients are referred to physiotherapists by registered doctors and other medical professionals like surgeons. Of late, due to increased healthcare awareness amongst the masses, many persons directly approach physiotherapists to get suitable redress for their physical disorders and disabilities. Since physiotherapy involves systematic clinical reasoning and reflective behaviour, physiotherapists resort to extensive tests and consultations with other healthcare professionals to diagnose the disorders and determine the methods of treatments. We have compiled a vast list of physiotherapists in the United Kingdom, with all the personal contact details and specialisations for your benefit. You can refer to us for guidance in finding the right physiotherapist in your area. We will render all assistance in your efforts to use physiotherapy to improve your health and mobility problems. |
